Pet blessing at St Mungo’s service

EVERY dog had its day at an Alexandria church recently.

Pooches filled the pews at St Mungo’s Church for an annual pets service.

The event, held on the Sunday nearest St Francis’ Day, attracted people from throughout the area with their four-legged friends.

Minister, the Rev Sally Gorton, said: “We have been holding a pets service for several years now, and so far the only pets that have been brought have all been dogs. This year there were about 20.

“With those kind of numbers I am able to give the pets a blessing individually, which is rather nice.”

St Francis was noted for his affinity with animals, and his love of all creation.
