Cameron House Hotel named most stylish in Scotland

A FIVE-STAR Loch Lomond hotel was named the most stylish in Scotland last week.

The De Vere Deluxe Cameron House Hotel received the prestigious title at the lavish Scottish Style Awards held at Kelvingrove Art Galleries in Glasgow on Friday night.

Graeme Nesbitt, Cameron House general manager, was at the ceremony to pick up the award – presented to him by Scottish chart-topper Sandi Thom.

He said: “It was a fantastic night and even better to win at a great event in a beautiful venue.”

The winners across the 12 categories were decided by a judging panel featuring award-winning photographer Nick Knight, designer Peter Saville and former Turner Art Prize holder Douglas Gordon.

Stephen Carter, managing director of Cameron House, revealed that the secret to its style success is tradition with a modern twist.

He said: “We’ve just had a total refurbishment which cost millions and that obviously had a lot to do with us being the most stylish hotel of 2008.

“We got very lucky with our designer, Gavin Greyline, who has done a great job for us and given the hotel something totally different.

“We now have the Great Scots Bar which is stylish, modern and very comfortable – yet keeping with the traditions of a great Scottish hotel.”

Scottish stars of stage, screen, art and music turned out for the bash – including Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson – hosted by DJ and presenter Lauren Laverne.

Loch Lomondshire born Lucy Yeomans, editor of Harpers Bazaar UK, was another winner at the bash – walking away with the gong for Tastemaker of the Year.

She said: “It meant so much to receive this award just a couple of hours away from where I grew up.

"And how fantastic to see so many great Scottish creatives being recognised – Scottish talent has never been so prolific, from the likes of Christopher Kane to Sharleen Spiteri.

“It was a tremendous – and in typical Scottish fashion – fun night and I was thrilled to be a part of it.”
