Faslane hold baked potato lunch charity drive

THE latest charity effort by chaplaincy staff at Faslane Naval Base certainly isn’t half baked.

The team is holding baked potato lunches for base staff in aid of a deserving cause.

Diners simply tuck in to their spud at Faslane’s the Church of St John’s with the money going to help those in need.

“The charity is still to be decided,” said the chaplaincy’s Margaret Reid, of Alexandria. “But base workers can be sure that the money will go to a great cause. We’re hoping to choose a charity to which we can donate the money received from now until Christmas, and then a different one for between Christmas and Easter.”

The healthy lunches, being prepared by Babcock cleaners Ena Smith and Mairi Smith, have proved a big hit in past years, with St Margaret’s Hospice receiving £500, Erskine Hospital £300 and the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland £100.
