GORDON Reid hopes Andy Murray can go on and win Wimbledon after his epic victory over Stanislas Wawrinka on Monday night.
The Helensburgh wheelchair tennis star missed the Scot’s latest victory at the championships, but is as excited as anybody about his chances.
Murray faces a quarter final tie with Juan Carlos Ferrero today (Wednesday) after Monday’s thrilling five-set win.
Gordon said: "I didn’t see the match on Monday as I was out, but I had people texting me the scores throughout and I heard it was quite an exciting match.
"I hope he does go on to win, and he does have a decent chance. There is a lot of pressure on him, so it will be tough, and you can never discount Roger Federer as he looks so comfortable on grass.
"Andy Roddick can also challenge on grass, and Novak Djokovic is capable of making a strong challenge to win."
Gordon, 17, recently left Hermitage Academy in his hometown and hopes to go to university to study psychology next year.
However, he is continuing to progress in wheelchair tennis, with two tournaments lined up down south later this month.
He added: "There is a wheelchair tournament at Wimbledon during finals weekend, but my ranking wasn’t high enough to qualify, although I am still the world junior number one.
"I now face two weeks’ training in Stirling, and then a visit to the National Tennis Centre in London.
"That is followed by two tournaments in Nottingham towards the end of July.
"I’m still young and improving, and I believe I have a long way to go before I reach my peak. But I am getting stronger all the time."
