SCOTT Flynn battled to victory in his first-ever mixed martial arts (MMA) fight – but admitted he can barely remember a thing about it!
The Jamestown fighter defeated Maryhill opponent Scott McAllister with a second round TKO in the recent bout at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.
But the fast-paced fight, and the pressure of a debut in front of hundreds of fans, meant it was over in a flash for the 22-year-old.
“It was all a bit of a blur to be honest,” said Scott. “The first round was five minutes long – but it felt like it flew by in 20 seconds.
“I’m glad I got the victory but I thought I would have fought better than I did. I don’t think I realised how much fighting in front of the crowd would affect me.”
Scott, a member of Dumbarton’s Dinky Ninja Fight Team (DNFT), admits he was nervous as it was his first fight, but managed to stay composed and was in control for the first round.
He landed a powerful leg kick at the beginning of the second round and, when his opponent’s leg gave way soon after, he tapped out to quit.
Three other DNFT members, John Cullen and Billy Quinn, of Balloch, and Clydebank man Gary Ward, were also on the bill at the ‘MMA Respect’ event at the Hilton Hotel.
John “Punisher” Cullen defeated French opponent Mickael Tozalgan when the ref stopped the fight in the second round.
John dominated the stand-up throughout the first round and, when on the ground, defended an arm bar submission whilst delivering strikes.
Early in the second round John landed a flying knee and applied a triangle choke when they both hit the deck soon after. Instead of holding the choke to finish the fight, John delivered elbow strikes to his opponent until the ref stepped in.
Billy Quinn also faced a French opponent in Jerome Buisson, but was left furious when the battle was stopped early.
With 10 seconds left in the first round, Jerome applied a shallow choke which Billy was defending with no real problem, knowing there was only a couple of seconds left in the round.
To the surprise of Billy, his corner, and the judges, the ref stepped in and stopped the fight.
Billy never tapped and was successfully defending the choke. Immediately after the fight, one of the judges came to the dressing room and informed the team that they would be appealing to the show’s promoters to overturn the decision and record it as a no contest.
Meanwhile, Gary Ward’s fight against Polish opponent Macies Siembab started fast and ended quickly. Gary forced the take down and quickly choked out his opponent.
