Judo: West Dunbartonshire Council's Jim settles for silver

JUDO champion Jim McKelvie scooped silver at the Scottish Highland Open Judo Championships in Fort William recently.

West Dunbartonshire Council senior events and halls officer, Jim was just pipped to gold in the +100kg heavyweight category by the powerful John Fitzgerald.

Jim, 52, and John were together in the first pool and drawn opposite in the crossover, only to meet again in the final.

Jim, who admitted he was no match for the powerhouse from Inverness, said: “It was a good day overall, as I also managed to pick up 17 points from wins in the earlier fights for promotion towards my 4th Dan.”
