DUMBARTON pot-shot Marcus Campbell was the star of the opening day of the Bahrain Championship – smashing in a superb maximum break.
The world number 42 is set to scoop a £20,000 pay day with an added £2,000 – provided no other player notches up a maximum at the tournament.
The 147 break helped him crush Omani potter Ahmed Basheer Al-Khusaib 5-0 to cruise into the last 32.
The 36-year-old is thrilled to have his first-ever competitive max, and the first in the Middle East at an official ranking tournament.
Campbell, who faced Australia's Neil Robertson on Monday, said: "Thank God Ronnie O'Sullivan isn't here. He'd probably have got a 147 too and taken half the cash!”
Unfortunately, despite some fine potting from Campbell, Robertson edged him out 5-4 in Monday’s match.
