Karate: Dumbarton youngsters earn black belts

TWO junior members of Dumbarton Shoto Budo club earned themselves black belts at a recent course in Largs.

Seven members of the club were graded at the weekend national Karate course at Inverclyde National Sports Centre.

A display of fantastic skill and technique saw Jimmy Monaghan and Andrew Gale pick up their junior black belts, while Morvan Gary received two black stripes.

Shona Garry and Julie Monaghan received green belts, while Leona Gale and Rachael Wardlaw retained their black belts for another year.

Dumbarton Shoto Budo are now welcoming new members to join their beginners classes.

They start on the first week in November in the Meadow Centre on Monday evenings, 7pm to 9pm, adults and 7pm to 8pm juniors.

On Thursday evenings the classes take place at Brucehill Activity Centre 7.30pm to 9pm, adults and 6.45pm to 7.30pm juniors.

On Saturday mornings they’re in the Phoenix Community Centre Castlehill 10am to 11am juniors and 11am to midday adults.
