HELENSBURGH wheelchair tennis star Gordon Reid has seen off one of his main rivals to claim another singles and doubles title.
The 17-year-old Helensburgh lad scored fine victories in the Esporta Cardiff Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, which was held at the Welsh National Tennis Centre. It’s the penultimate British-based world ranking event of the 2008 NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
Reid defeated experienced Yorkshireman Kevin Plowman to exact revenge for a quarter-finals defeat to Plowman in the Cardiff tournament in 2006.
And in the men's doubles final, the young Scot, partnering Middlesex's Marc McCarroll, faced Plowman again and recorded another straight sets victory for his third senior doubles title of the season.
In the singles final, Reid saw off Plowman with a fine performance, however, victory was far from easy. Both sets went to tie-break and Reid managed to edge out his opponent in each.
In the men's doubles, Reid and McCarroll justified their top seeding with another straight sets victory, dropping just the second game of the first set against Plowman and Scotland’s Kevin Simpson.
Ranked No. 30 in the world prior to the Cardiff tournament, Reid will now climb back up the men's singles world rankings in the coming week.
