PUPILS from two Dumbarton primary schools had something to celebrate last week as the second heat of the Sportshall athletics festival took place.
Youngsters from St Patrick’s and Knoxland Primary Schools reached the grand final, which is due to take place in April.
Nine local schools were involved in the second stage of the competition, organised by West Dunbartonshire Council’s sports development unit and Dumbarton Area Local Athletics Partnership (DALAP).
St Patrick’s and Knoxland were the top two schools in the boys’ category – but it was another school that won the girls’ event.
Dalreoch Primary had the best girls’ team on the day but it wasn’t enough to help them reach the overall top two.
Organiser Maurice Donohue said: “Well done to all the athletes who took part in the West Dunbartonshire Sports Development Sportshall event and made it such a successful day.
“A big vote of thanks goes to all the personnel from West Dunbartonshire Sports Development, Active Schools, student volunteers, Leisure Services personnel, the Meadow Centre, teachers and assistants for all their help and assistance.
“Thanks also to the stars of the show – all the athletes from all the schools.
“Everyone’s support is key to the development of grassroot athletics here in West Dunbartonshire.”
