Athletics: West Dunbartonshire Athletics Club has great start in league

WEST Dunbartonshire Athletics Club had a great start to the Scottish Athletics Indoor League when the first event recently took place at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall.

The under-11 girls were first to compete, with Morvan Rowan completing her 60m in 10.55 and the 600m in 2.14.6, gaining her eighth and sixth places in her category.

Nicole Farrell ran her 60m heat in 11.24 and achieved a standing long jump of 1.34m placing her in fourth and sixth places respectively.

For the under-11 boys, Kyle Pollard ran the 60m in 10.07 and gained a standing long jump of 1.44m, giving him fourth and seventh position for his category. Mathew Archibald completed the 60m in 10.82 and got a standing long jump of 1.53m for fifth and third places.

Under-13 girl Nicole Kilgallon kept the pace going and ran the 60m in 9.8 (11th place), the 200m in 34.2 (11th) and the 800m in 2.52.6 (6th).

The under-13 boys team kept on the pressure, with Lewis Farrell running the 60m in 9.28 (5th), and gaining a very impressive first place with a high jump of 1.35m.

Ruairidh Pollard completed the 200m in 30.5 (2nd), gained a long jump of 3.77m (2nd) and had a shot putt throw of 5:83m (4th), good enough to earn him the athlete of the match prize.

Aiden Ball ran 800m in 3.08.6 (16th) and completed the 60m hurdles in 12.73 (4th). Robert Archibald ran the 60m in 10.09 (12th) and gained a shot putt of 4.77m (7th).

Liam Rowles completed the team and ran the 800m in 3:29.5 (17th) and had a long jump of 2.22m (16th).

Most of the club’s under-15 girls are only 12 years old, but they still put in some brilliant performances.

Emma Boyle ran the 60m in 9.00 (4th), the 200m in 30.7 (5th) and a shot putt throw of 5:19m gained her 11th place. Erin Ball gained a time of 2.56.6 for the 800m (13th) and she achieved a long jump of 2.68m (14th).

Sarah Brodie gained a very respectful and impressive high jump of 1.35m, giving her a finishing position of 5th equal.

Finally, another competition novice, Kyle Ellis, ran the 400m in the under-15 boys category in a time of 94:1 (11th) and obtained a long jump of 3.13m (11th).
