THE Clydesdale Harriers had a successful Sunday recently, with winners and personal bests to the fore.
The Richie Wanacott Multi-Terrain five-mile and nine-mile races, near Garelochhead was first. Both races were extremely tough over varying terrain with one thing in common – hills and lots of them!
The five-mile had Brian Gallagher running well to finish first overall in a time of 30.36. In the nine-mile race, Marina McCallum was the comfortable first lady winner in a time of 1.12.19, with Peter Rudzinski a few minutes back, running 1.16.55.
That same day was also the Tom Scott Memorial 10-mile race (last race in the club's winter league) which took place at Strathclyde Park.
First Clydesdale finisher was Paul Carroll (60.31), followed by Iain Robertson (65.32), Bobby Rossborough (65.41), Kath Scott (70.40), Fiona McCue (71.03 pb) and Martin King (73.06).
Also that day was the Ayrshire Harriers open graded meeting at Dam Park, Ayr. Several of the younger members of the club took part in the track and field events.
Under 13 Rachel Busby competed in the 1500m, 150m and the discus. For the 1500m, she ran an excellent 5.46.9, coming well up the field, in the 150m she was fourth in 24.5sec and threw the discus 7.42m.
Mirren Wright also competed in the 1500m and came fourth in the 100m in a time of 15.4sec. Under 15 Roisin McShea was the third to run in the 1500m, running 5.46.4, and also competed in the long jump, jumping a respectable 2.84m.
Claire Reid came second in the 200m heats and ran an unofficial personal best (pb) in the 800m of 2.47.
Under 17 Kirsty Kelly came third in the 200m, ran 3.06 for the 800m and ran a pb for the 1500m (5.49.9).
Tony Dolan competed in the 1500m, matching his pb and coming third in a time of 5.06.3. Lastly, Ryan Nelson came second in his 800m heat (2.19.1).
The day before, Michael Diver ran in the Clachnaben Hill Race (near Banchory). The race was 18.6k long and had 1070 metres ascent, and Michael ran well to finish in 1.58.42.
