Clydesdale Harriers on the run from Lucerne to Cumbernauld

SWITZERLAND was the stage for two Harriers last week, as they travelled to the scenic Lucerne Marathon.

First in was Bobby Rossborough in 3:06:00 followed by Kath Scott in 3:26:00.

Both had been injured in the run-up to the marathon so their times proved impressive considering less training than normal had been done.

Back in Scotland, more Harriers travelled the shorter distance to Cumbernauld for the National Cross Country Relay Championships.

In truly atrocious conditions several brave junior and senior teams participated.

First up were the Young Females 2500 metres race. The first leg was run by Chloe Wright (13.38) who then changed to Kirstie Kelly (15.08) then Diane Nicholson (14.30) for a total time of 43:16 which gave them 52nd place out of 68 teams who took part.

Second up were the Young Males, racing over the same distance, with two Harriers teams participating.

The A team was Connor Shields (14.35), Tony Dolan (12.44) and Peter Bowman (11.11) with a total time of 38:30, giving them 59th position out of 75.

The B team had David Newton (15.42), Scott McDade (14.07) and Mark Busby (12.59) run in a total time of 42:48 in 65th position.

An incomplete Senior Ladies team ran 4000 metres and comprised of Marina McCallum (21.37).

Lastly, Harriers had two teams for the Senior Mens 4000 metres race.

The A team comprised of Prasad Prasad (15.29), John Foley (18.24), Gary Dick (17.29) and Iain Robertson (17.45) for a total time 69.07 and 32nd position out of 99 teams.

The B team saw Brian Campbell (19.37), Bobby Young (19.35), Michael Diver (19.55) and Peter Rudzinski (24.13) home in a total time of 83.20 and 83rd position.

The previous weekend Marina McCallum travelled to Carlisle to run the Great Cumbrian Run. She finished 262nd out of 1429 runners in a time of 1:39:44 on an undulating course.

Next races for the Harriers are the Stranraer 10k (November 2) and the Brampton to Carlisle 10 Miler (November 15).
