Rugby: Loch Lomond under-15s beat Uddingston

LOCH Lomond avenged their defeat to Uddingston earlier in the season in some style on Sunday.

From the kick-off they took the play to the visitors, and were awarded a penalty on the halfway line.

Allen took it quickly, with Driver in support. The latter took the ball on and broke through the defence to score under the posts, and Allen converted.

After the restart Lomond went on the rampage up the park with a series of rucks, and made into the 22, where man of the match Blyth picked the ball up at the back of a ruck and drove over for a well worked score which was converted by Ward.

Uddingston came back into the game just before half time when their full back slipped some tackles to score, and this was converted.

The second half started much the same way as the first, with Lomond applying all the pressure and again with some good quick ruck ball, Slevin managed to fall over the line to score again. Ward converted again to make it 21-7.

Lomond had been forced into several changes but it is clear that they have now got strength in depth, as none of the players who came off the bench looked out of place.

Uddingston did put Lomond under some pressure and were on Lomond’s 5m line when Driver won the ball from an Uddingston up and under and proceeded to run the length of the pitch to score under the posts. Allen converted for a score of 28-7.

Uddingston came back again and scored a consolation try, which was converted, with the last play of the game.

Lomond deserved the win and are getting better with each game. Next week they have Lenzie at home in what is shaping up to be a good match.

Training is on at the club on Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm. If you are interested in rugby in any form contact Tom on 07785 345600.

Sunday also saw Lomond’s mini section travel up to a tournament at Glasgow Accies, and although they did not win, they put up a very good show.

The club is actively looking for players for the mini section this is from P1 to P7 and also any players in the S1/S2 age group.

LOCH Lomond’s first XV game at home to Wigtownshire was postponed on Saturday.
