LOCH Lomond under-14s fought back from two tries down on Sunday to earn themselves a 15-15 draw against Clydebank.
The side travelled to Clydebank to play Clydebank and Birkmyre.
As Birkmyre only brought five players, they were split between the Lomond and Clydebank teams.
Clydebank went into a two-try lead in the first half, both being scored by their powerful fullback who shook off some poor tackling by Lomond.
But before long the Lomond players began tackling like they should, with powerful hits going in from both Ian Allen and Jason Rossi.
Lomond got their first try at the end of the first half when scrum-half Stuart Carruthers turned over the ball on the five-metre line and drove over with three Clydebank players hanging from him.
Lomond dug deep and early in the second half, a fly kick through had Clydebank in trouble.
With the full back impeding Lomond players, the referee had no option but to award a penalty try.
And shortly after, Ian Allen pounced on a Lomond move and rounded it off by going straight under the posts.
Lomond looked as though they could hang on for the win but strong running again from the Clydebank fullback proved Lomond’s undoing as he scored in the dying minutes of the game. A draw was a fair result after a very entertaining game.
This is starting to look like a very good team for Loch Lomond and with performances like this, the only way is up for them.
However, it wasn’t all good news for Lomond players; the mini matches had to be called off after as the weather proved too much for them.
Training for the juniors is on a Saturday at 11am at the clubhouse in Bonhill. All children are welcome to come and try out. For more information call the club on a Tuesday or Thursday night or call Tom on 01436 860275.
