HELENSBURGH Rugby club suffered a painful defeat at the hands of Lenzie on Saturday — with only four points in it.
Helensburgh travelled to Lenzie with high hopes following a 34-0 drubbing of Duns last week, knowing that just one more victory would turn their season around and guarantee them a place in Division three again next season.
However, it was not to be, as Lenzie got a crucial 15-11 win, to add to their 21-6 win at Ardencaple earlier in the season.
With just two more league games to play, Helensburgh know they need a win over Whitecraigs or Lasswade to avoid the drop from the third division, and with both games being played at home, the Greens are definitely in with a fighting chance.
However, if they fail to win either of their remaining two matches, Burgh will face a nervy wait to see how fellow strugglers Madras and Strathmore fare as statistically, both can still consign Burgh to the depths of district rugby.
