A CARDROSS golfer narrowly missed out on glory representing Motherwell FC in the Pro:Fantastic Golf Challenge.
Andy O’Connor was competing for the Lanarkshire club’s team in the competition’s grand final, which will be screened on Sky Sports early next year.
But he and his team-mates, fellow fan Cameron Wilson and Fir Park legend Brian Martin, finished joint third, nine points behind winners Newcastle United, at Amendoeira, Portugal.
Andy said: “We put in a reasonable performance. Joint third isn’t bad, but we struggled with the bunkers; the sand was a lot tougher than we’re used to.
“The three days were excellent. It was all managed superbly and the organisation was first class.
“The highlight was the prize-giving dinner; there was lots of football banter flying around and I think you’d struggle to get such a good group of 30 lads again.
“There’s no doubt we’ll be trying to come back next year. Having played the course a couple of times now we’d like to think we could do just as well if not better.”
Fans and players from 14 teams on both sides of the border took part on the event, which will be televised from January to March.
