CLARE Queen made up for a disappointing first tournament of the season – with a top ten finish this week.
The 26-year-old Carrick representative carded rounds of 70, 75, 72 and 74 to finish tied for eighth at the Women’s Australian Open at the Metropolitan Golf Club.
Queen’s top finish last season was sixth at her home course for the Ladies Scottish Open back in May last year.
But she got her 2009 season firmly on track with her Aussie Open finish – landing herself a 6230 pay day.
The event wasn’t without controversy though, as Englishwoman, Laura Davies, scooped the title after a score miscalculation from Spaniard Tania Elosegui.
Meanwhile, Ross Bain found some form to pick up his first cheque of the season.
The former Cardross man was the only Scot to make the cut at the Maybank Malaysian Open, at Saujana Golf and Country Club, on a sponsors’ invitation.
The Dubai-based golfer carded rounds of 68, 75, 72 and 77 to finish in 71st place and pick up a cheque for $2997.
American Anthony Kang won the title with an amazing 17-under-par score – 21 shots better than Bain.
