HELENSBURGH’S Gary Orr got his 2009 season up and running this weekend – with his first winnings of the new year.
The 41-year-old kicked off his year on the European Tour Race to Dubai with a 62nd place finish on Sunday.
Orr, who finished 64th in the European Tour Order of Merit last year with earnings of 472,033, got off to an average start last Thursday with a first round 75.
However, he turned his form round to make the cut with a second round 68 – during which he notched up a fantastic five birdies on the front nine.
With the majority of the field hitting well below par, a third round 72 and final round of 71 stopped the Scot advancing further up the leaderboard.
His 62nd place finish earned him a cheque for 3676.
