Cardross golfer Ross Bain misses Asian Tour

GOLFER Ross Bain got his 2009 season off to a horrendous start after failing to secure his Asian Tour card.

The former Cardross man, who is now based in Dubai, narrowly missed out on his tour card by finishing outside the top 60 of the Order of Merit (he was 71st).

The 33-year-old looked set to sparkle in the Thailand event, after nailing an eagle, four birdies and just a single bogey for a spectacular 68 on the St Andrews 2000 course for a one-shot lead on the field.

However, his lead was short lived as he crashed to a disappointing 76 on day two and even more disastrous third round 82 to leave him wallowing at 80th and needing something special to lift him into card contention.

But it wasn’t to be and a final round of 74 left him four shots adrift of that final qualifying place.

Bain will now have to rely on invitations and outstanding performances to work his way back on to the tour in 2009.
