Gary's excellent Swedish finish

HELENSBURGH’S Gary Orr has virtually sealed his European Tour card for next season after a fourth placed finish in the SAS Masters in Sweden on Sunday.

The 41-year-old netted 67,947 euros with rounds of 67, 68, 67 and 71 to finish on seven-under-par – just two shots behind Swedish winner Peter Hanson.

His excellent tournament propelled Orr 23 places to 88th in the Order of Merit to 23rd overall – keeping him well inside the top 115 who retain their card for next year.

Meanwhile, the Carrick’s Clare Queen also gave her tour standing a boost – despite inclement weather hampering play at the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe over the weekend.

Queen netter 6,488.32 euros after finishing three under par – four shots off another Swedish winner, Lotta Whalin.

The tournament had to be reduced from 72 to 54 holes after horrendous weather prevented any play on Saturday.

Her rounds of 71, 70 and 72 saw the 25-year-old rise eight places in the order of merit to 41st.
