Dumbarton Accies end on a high

ACCIES recovered from an 8-1 defeat at Links last Tuesday to win their final match of the season.

Conceding a disputed second-minute goal from a penalty didn't help Accies cause, with Steven Smith adjudged to have illegally blocked a Giffnock attempt to get a header in from a cross.

To their credit, following the recent spate of disappointing results, Accies responded positively. They got themselves level after 15 minutes when a deep corner from Stuart McGillvray found the head of Scott Kemp, whose powerful header found the net.

Andrew McDonald then put Accies in front on 25 minutes when he latched on to a short back header from Giffnock's defence and neatly lobbed the onrushing keeper.

The same player scored again five minutes later when a Tom McHard shot was saved by the Giffnock keeper, but the rebound landed perfectly for McDonald who knocked the ball into the empty net.

The second half saw opportunities for both teams, but despite those chances, the scoreline remained unaltered until Giffnock scored with a couple of minutes left. Accies, however, held on without too much difficulty to seal a deserved victory.

The club’s awards presentation night takes place on Saturday at Eastfield Bowling Club. Families and friends are all welcome.
