Academy end with a poor finish but still land trophy

DUMBARTON Academy FP lost their final two home fixtures of the season, firstly 2-1 against Dalziel on Thursday with Andrew McDonald scoring.

Then there was this exciting encounter with Strathclyde on Saturday, where Accies took a 2-0 lead through Derek Readie and Alan Davie.

But within five minutes the students scored three goals to turn the game round due to a mix of very good attacking play and very poor defending.

Strathclyde scored a fourth in the second half before Davie got his second to pull one back, but it was not enough.

Accies manager Iain Howieson said: "Poor defending from the team as a whole cost us this game. I can't be too hard on the players, though, as they have served me well this season."

Accies were due to play Links away last night (Tuesday) before finishing their season at Giffnock on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.

The West of Scotland League and Under-21 teams have finished their campaigns, while the under-19s signed off for summer on Saturday with a 5-3 defeat to Goldenhill.
