Scottish Cup cruise for Dumbarton Accies

ACCIES eased into next round but boss Iain Howieson was unhappy the Dumbarton lads conceded a goal.

A double by Alan Hutchieson and strike from Andy McDonald had accies cruising, but Gourock pulled one back with 20 minutes remaining.

Manager Howieson said: “Losing the goal was sloppy, and took the shine off an otherwise good performance. I felt we were worthy winners.”

The match was originally scheduled to played at Gourock, however as the pitch was once again unplayable, the match was switched to Dumbarton Academy playing fields.

A lively start provided an early talking point when Accies keeper Andy McGillvray came rushing out of his box and fouled an opposing forward who was bearing in on goal. Luckily for Accies, the referee decided the keeper had made a genuine attempt for the ball and no further action was taken.

Accies took the lead on 12 minutes when Andy McDonald passed to Hutchieson, who finished well.

As the match headed towards half-time, Accies made another breakthrough. Good interchange between Hutchieson and Readie resulted in the former finishing on the turn from close range.

On the hour, Gourock started looking dangerous again. Three corners were forced in quick succession and Chris McDonald had to head off the line.

On 65 minutes Andy McDonald scored Accies third. After beating a couple of players near the edge of the box, Andy's miss-hit shot deceived the Gourock keeper.

To their credit, Gourock kept battling on, and their efforts were rewarded after 70 minutes, when they pulled a goal back.

Accies are away to Dalmuir on Saturday in the third round of the West Cup.
