ST PATRICK’S FPs stunned Polepark with a fourteen-goal thumping on Saturday.
The first 20 minutes were frustrating for the visitors as they found the Polepark goal keeper, Kevin Milne, in fine form – but his luck would not last as his defence began to leak like a sieve.
John Deeley was first to force the issue with a powerful shot that Milne initially blocked but as the ball bounced off his chest Dom D’annunzio was on hand to slip the ball to Mark MacLeod who squeezed it home from close range.
Two more goals would follow in the first half when Dom Ruane was impeded as he tuned into the box and after dusting himself down he stepped forward to convert the resultant penalty.
Then on 26 minutes, a wonderful move saw Darren MacKinnon power up the right before crossing into the area where MacLeod was waiting to take full advantage.
By this time the St.Pat’s midfield were in complete control. With Ruane on top form, allied to the powerful surge of MacKinnon and the subtle Monaghan, the Dundee side had little in the way of answers.
This in turn left Kevin Connor in the Saints goal almost redundant. At least Alan Galloway, John Deeley and James Graham would take turns to join the party up front as the visitors set about their business.
An interval reminder that it would be in their best interest to convert a bigger percentage of the chances created from midfield must have hit a nerve.
Within a minute of the re-start, St.Pat’ added another two goals to their tally, a wonderful drive from John Deeley that flew past the stationary keeper, followed by Martin Currie taking full benefit of MacKinnon’s good work to slip the ball home.
This was a signal to clear the bench and give MacKinnon and Currie a well-earned rest, but the show continued with a wonderful trade- mark goal from D’annunzio, dribbling past three defenders before placing the ball wide of the keeper’s grasp and into the net.
As the game progressed, Deeley sunk a cut back from MacLeod, Ruane headed home a super cross from Monaghan, and then Deeley completed a deserved hat-trick with help again from MacLeod.
Matters got worse in the last ten minutes when they lost another five goals.
With a striker’s instinct for goals, MacLeod added two more to bring his personal tally to four on the day. Then Michael Sullivan with a vicious right foot shot and another goal for D’annunzio piled on the pain for the Dundee side.
And in amongst the carnage, a goal from Adam Monaghan brought the biggest cheer (from uncle Tam) when he thumped home his first goal for the club from distance.
