Hunter nets his fourth of season for Dumbarton FC

RODDY Hunter found that the best things come in threes after Dumbarton’s 2-1 win on Saturday against Cowdenbeath.

As well as the three points, the game was a return to action for Sons after over a month without a match, and the striker’s equaliser was his fourth goal of the season.

The 25-year-old was delighted to get the three points against the league leaders with a victory he felt his team fully merited.

He said: “It was brilliant to get the victory, to get my first goal since November and also to get back playing. I think we thoroughly deserved to get the three points.

“Even after going a goal down, we always thought that with the team we’ve got and the fighting spirit, we could get back into it.

“It was close in the first half when we just didn’t get the breaks, but we completely dominated after the restart.”

Sons now go to Peterhead, directly below them in the league, on Saturday in confident mood after their victory over Cowden.

Roddy hopes they can make it two wins out of two in the New Year and push further towards a decent finish this season.

He added: “The entire season has been a turning point. We have been progressing slowly and have never been far away.

“One win does not make a season, but we definitely have the ability to crack on from here and finish in a decent position.

“It is also good to get our third game against the leaders out the way. The first game against them was not a good day, but in the second we played better despite losing.

“Peterhead will be on a high on Saturday after their win over Arbroath, but so are we, so it will be a good game.”
