ROSS Clark followed in the footsteps of team-mate Ben Gordon as history repeated itself on Saturday.
The Dumbarton midfielder hit a late winner in a 2-1 win over Cowdenbeath – just the same as Ben did in Sons’ last victory over the Fife club in September 2008.
It was also Ross’ first goal of the campaign, ending a frustrating wait after being top scorer with 15 goals last season.
He hopes that his clinching goal has put him in manager Jim Chapman’s plans for Saturday’s trip to face Peterhead.
He said: “I’ll maybe say to Ben that I took a bit of inspiration from his goal against Cowdenbeath last season!
“We always thought that history could repeat itself going into the last minutes, and so it proved with us getting the winner. It’s also my first goal of the season, so I’m delighted with that.
“Hopefully that is me in the manager’s plans for a starting place against Peterhead, but we will wait and see what happens.
“We will train during the week, and then it will be up to the manager who plays in what will be a very important match.”
Saturday was only the 12th time that Ross has taken any part in a match this season, having been hit hard by injury.
He felt Sons deserved the three points against Cowden after they had waited over a month since their last game, a 2-2 draw at Stirling Albion.
He added: “I’ve been fit for about a month and a half, so it hasn’t been the best time, with the weather delaying my return to the team.
“I had tendonitis at the start of the season and played through it, but it eventually got too much after about a month.
“It’s frustrating when the team has been playing well, as I know I’ve got to fight for my place, but I’ll just have to get my head down and work hard.
“Cowdenbeath had a few chances in the first 15 minutes or so on Saturday, but I thought we dominated in the second half and put in a great shift.”
