Preview of Dumbarton FC v Greenock Morton

THE road to Hampden this season starts for Dumbarton on Saturday when they head across the River Clyde to face Morton in the Active Nation Scottish Cup third round.

The Greenock side stand in the way if Sons want to reach the fourth round, where all the big guns enter the competition.

And, although Morton are currently eighth in the first division, it will be a hugely difficult task for Sons to pull off a shock result.

On Saturday James Grady's men beat Airdrie United 4-2 – a week after thrashing Raith Rovers 5-0 at Cappielow.

They were also 1-0 winners at Dumbarton in July when the sides met in the ALBA Challenge Cup first round.

So they will be difficult opposition, but the cup is famous for shock results and, after recent form, Sons may fancy their chances.

Kick-off is at the usual 3pm, with the Sons Supporters Trust's bus leaving The Counting House in Dumbarton High Street at 1.30pm. The bus is fully booked.

If the game ends in a draw, then the replay will take place at the Rock on Saturday, December 5, kick-off 3pm.

That will also be the date and time for a re-scheduled game at Cappielow if the match is called off.
