Dumbarton FC: Scott Chaplain says it was an easy decision to come to the Rock

SCOTT Chaplain revealed that joining Dumbarton was an easy decision to make, despite interest from several other clubs.

The midfielder, who was released by Partick Thistle, was quick to sign a one year deal with Sons as it meant hooking up with old boss Jim Chapman again, as well as a few old team mates.

Chaplain hopes to replicate the goalscoring form that made him third division player of the year under Jim at Albion Rovers in 2007.

And he won’t have to wait long to face his old Thistle team-mates, as the sides meet at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium in a friendly on Tuesday, July 14.

He said: “This is a good club and I know a few of the players as well as the manager.

“Having worked with Jim before, I enjoyed success from a personal point of view, so that swayed me to come and work with him again.

“I’ve played alongside Iain Chisholm at Albion Rovers as well as Michael Dunlop at Ayr United and Stevie Murray and Ryan McStay at Partick. All in all, it was an easy decision to make.

“I had interest from a few clubs after I was released by Thistle, but Dumbarton stood out as being the best option.”

Scott hopes to provide another goalscoring option for Sons and will be happy if he can match Ross Clark’s form of last season.

The 25-year-old said: “My game is all about attacking from midfield and trying my best to score, but of course Ross did that for Dumbarton last season. I know him well as we are both from East Kilbride.

“It is a bit early to say how Dumbarton can hope to do this season, but they have the makings of a good side.

“It will be good to play Thistle in a couple of weeks in a friendly as there are obviously still some very familiar faces there.”
