THE heartbroken fiancee of tragic Dumbarton FC captain Gordon Lennon has spoken about her loss.
Kelly Dempsey described Gordon as an “amazing person” as she spoke affectionately of how he constantly made her feel special.
Gordon, 26, died two weeks ago in an off-road car accident in Brahan, near Dingwall, after leading Dumbarton to the Third Division league title.
Kelly, also 26, of Paisley, said: “I feel we have been robbed of this amazing person.
“He put in so much effort and it feels like it has been snatched away.
“We talked about having more children, a bigger house...all those things that aren’t going to happen. Right now, I can’t see any future.
“I’m just so thankful he gave me my son.”
Cards and letters have flooded in from fans, strangers and clubs, including a note from Sir Alex Ferguson who knew Gordon in his early days at Harmony Row amateurs in Govan.
Gordon’s funeral took place last Wednesday at Hillington Park Church, which was full over half an hour before the service started.
Around 300 more people had to go into the church hall to listen to the funeral via an audio link.
Tears flowed at a moving service, conducted by Reverend John McGregor, as Gordon’s family paid tribute to their brother and son.
Brother Scott, 25, said: “Gordon was just the best. He packed a lot into his 26 years and I looked up to him so much.
“It just pains me that I’m reading out Gordon’s eulogy when I should be speaking at his wedding.”
After the hour-long service, the congregation moved on to Hawkhead Cemetery in Paisley, where Gordon was laid to rest.
Collections are due to be taken for his family at Sons’ forthcoming friendly matches with Partick Thistle and St Mirren.
A benefit match is also to be arranged, with Dumbarton businessman Robert Ryan currently setting up a committee.
