TRIBUTES have flooded in for tragic Dumbarton FC captain Gordon Lennon from the club and the supporters.
A statement on the club website read: “Everybody connected with Dumbarton FC is shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden death of club captain Gordon Lennon resulting from a tragic accident whilst on a weekend break with his family.
“All our thoughts are with his whole family and in particular his partner Kelly and five-month-old baby Kai.
“Gordon was an inspiration both on and off the park and his influence will be felt by many both within and outwith Dumbarton Football Club for a very long time to come.
“He was not just a quality footballer, he was a great man with so many qualities and was rarely seen without his trademark smile.
“Everyone associated with Dumbarton FC is proud that he considered his greatest footballing achievement as lifting the third di vision championship trophy as the captain of Dumbarton last month.
“Our condolences go out to his family and as a club we will assist his family in whatever way we can through these difficult times and those that lie ahead.”
Sons Supporters Trust secretary and director Alan Findlay added: “News of Gordon Lennon’s death has shocked everyone.
“The trust offers condolences to Gordon’s family, especially Kelly and of course Kai. May they find strength in each other to help them through their grief. We are all thinking of them at this sad time.
“Gordon was a fine ambassador for Dumbarton FC. As club captain, and the responsibility that came with the job, Gordon was exemplary.
“When we arrived back at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium after winning the title at Annan, Gordon took time to speak to literally hundreds of Sons fans as we all celebrated.
“He was a real gentleman and he will be sadly missed.”
