McStay prepares for Jags friendly

RYAN McStay was pleased to sign a new deal with Dumbarton – so he can put one over his old mates at Partick Thistle.

The midfielder penned a one-year contract at the weekend and is looking forward to facing the Jags in a friendly on Tuesday, July 14.

Having improved his match fitness towards the end of last season, he’s hoping to continue his career revival as the new campaign draws closer.

He said: “I’m over the moon to re-sign. I wanted it all done before I went away on my holidays later this month.

“Obviously I will have a point to prove against Thistle, and I still have a lot of good mates there. Every time I played for them I felt I did myself justice, but I’ve no regrets and it will be interesting to see how the game goes.”

Ryan has been involved in several close-run battles throughout his career, involving both promotion and relegation.

And he hopes that with the right signings, Sons can have another successful campaign in next season’s second division.

He added: “I’ve had a few highlights. I played around 20 games for Falkirk when they won the first division in 2005 and scored the goal that won the title.

“Then I was at Queen of the South on loan and helped them escape the drop. However, winning the title last season is right up there.

“I think we stand a really good chance next season as well. If the gaffer gets the players he wants up-front, I can see us making the play-offs easily.”
