Clark signs up for another busy season

ROSS Clark re-signed for Dumbarton at the weekend – and rubbished claims he was a target for Stenhousemuir.

Sons’ top scorer had been linked with a move away after last season’s 15 goal haul, but his future at the Rock was never in any doubt.

Having just returned from Spain with the Sons squad, the midfielder is off on another holiday on Sunday and was anxious to get everything signed and sealed.

He said: “I’m happy to re-sign. There were a few rumours about me going to another team but there was never any contact from them.

“I was never planning on leaving Dumbarton. It was just a matter of sorting a few things out and I’m delighted to be back.

“I’m going to the Maldives with my girlfriend, so I’ll miss one day of pre-season training, but I just want the new season to start as soon as possible.

“I only realised a couple of days ago that training starts in three weeks’ time, but having finished as champions we don’t want to stop.”

Ross is aiming for a successful 2009/10 season, both for the team and himself, with promotion and more goalscoring exploits the ambition.

He added: “A lot of people would say that staying in the second division is the priority but I believe we have the players to do better than that.

“I’ve played in the second division and there’s not much difference between that and the third. If we keep the standard up we could be in the play-off race.

“Last season was one of the best team spirits I’ve been part of, so it was sad to see some of the players go, but you just have to get on with it.

“I don’t know where the goalscoring exploits came from last season, but I’m up for doing the same again!”
