Dumbarton FC: League success goes to the Scottish Parliament

DUMBARTON’S league title success even reached the Scottish Parliament this week.

The area’s proud MSP, Jackie Baillie, had other politicians singing Sons’ praises when she tabled a motion at Holyrood.

It read: “This parliament congratulates Dumbarton Football Club for winning the Third Division of the Scottish Football league, applauds the efforts of Jim Chapman and the team, recognises the unstinting support of the fans and the Sons Supporters Trust and looks forward to similar success in the Second Division next year.”

She told the Lennox Herald: “This is a great result for the team and all the fans at Dumbarton FC. They have done the town proud.”

MP John McFall added: “I wish to congratulate the board, management, players and supporters of Dumbarton Football Club on their wonderful success in winning the league.

“It is a marvellous achievement for the club and Dumbarton, and I wish everyone success in the Second Division next season.”

Council leader Iain Robertson said: “As a Son of the Rock, I am absolutely over the moon and I am sure everyone on West Dunbartonshire Council will join me in congratulating the club.

“I have only been to one game this season, but like everyone else I keep in touch with what goes on. I feel a great degree of pride being a Dumbarton man when the team has achieved promotion.

“It’s been an exciting end to the season and it’s finished very much on a high.”

Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce chief executive John Corcoran added his congratulations to Sons.

He said: “Congratulations to our member Jim Chapman and to the directors and players of Dumbarton Football Club in winning the championship.

“Jim very kindly gave us a presentation earlier in the year and obviously his motivational methods came good. It is a delight seeing a local team being up there at the top.”
