Dumbarton FC fan's day ruined after shirt stolen

A YOUNG Dumbarton fan’s celebrations were cut short on Saturday after someone stole his prized memento from the club’s league win.

Joseph Coleman, 13, was delighted when Sons keeper Dave McEwan handed him his top after the 3-1 win against Annan Athletic.

But the special day was ruined for Joseph, of Keil Crescent, Brucehill, when another cruel fan pinched the shirt on a supporters’ bus on the way home.

His mum Saran said: “He’s gutted about it.

“Joseph had missed the supporters’ bus in the morning so I drove him all the way down to Annan because he was really looking forward to the game.

“When the match was finished they all ran on to the pitch and the goalkeeper came over and handed Joseph the top.

“On the bus journey on the way back the bus was stopped for people to go to the toilet – and when Joseph came back on the bus the top was away.

“The bus driver announced what had happened on the bus but no one would own up to it.”

Dumbarton manager Jim Chapman said: “After all the celebrations and the amazing support we’ve had from the fans all season, this is the last thing I would have expected from a Dumbarton supporter.

“I would ask the person to do the honourable thing and have it returned to the boy as Dave McEwan felt he was worthy of the jersey.

“Let’s leave the lasting memory of our league win a positive one.”
