THE Sons Supporters Trust added its congratulations to Dumbarton FC on clinching the third division title.
Trust secretary and director Alan Findlay said: “What a day Saturday was for everyone. For the fans it will live long in everyone’s memory.
“There were a few tears shed as the team came down Castle Road with their first trophy in 17 years and it’s a moment I, for one, will never forget.
“It’s been a great season for Dumbarton FC. The trust, working fully with the club, has found the community spirit missing for so long.
“Great credit for that must go to the board of directors and chief executive Gilbert Lawrie for all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.
“The supporters play a full part in the life of the club and I’m privileged to be involved at such a good time for the Sons. As the T-shirts said on the day, ‘The Only Way is Up’.
“Congratulations to manager Jim Chapman and the lads for giving the fans a truly memorable and unforgettable season.”
Brian Payne, newly-elected as trust chairman over the season, also paid tribute to the team after the remarkable success.
He said: “What a fantastic day – not even the downpour at half-time could dampen the players’ or fans’ spirits.
“To see the hordes of fans waiting at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium to cheer the open-top bus arrive will live long in the memory.
“Special thanks for all involved at Annan who went out of their way to ensure we were able to enjoy every moment.
“And further thanks to Jim and the players, not only for delivering the title, but for the way they included every Sons supporter in their celebrations – a true community club.”
