SUPERSTAR DJ Spoony has sent his congratulations to Dumbarton after adopting them as his team on Radio Five Live’s 606 show for the season.
The phone-in presenter gave his support to Sons after a fan called the show at the start of the season to promote the club.
He said: “Well done my Sons! I’m delighted for Dumbarton on their third division success in Scotland.
“I championed them on Radio Five Live’s 606 footie phone in and we've had callers from Dumbarton rightly praising the team. It’s great for Jim Chapman and the lads. All the best.”
Meanwhile, ex-Sons player and manager Murdo MacLeod has also expressed his delight at his former club going up.
The BBC Radio Scotland pundit was the boss who got them promoted back in 1995 with a last-day win at Stirling Albion.
He said: “I’m delighted for them – it’s been a long, tough season but it’s come together for them at the right time.
“I haven’t seen them playing this season but on the radio on a Saturday I’ve always kept an eye on how they’ve been doing, especially towards the end.
“It’s great for the manager and players, and also for the fans, who will be quite happy to see the league flag flying at the stadium.”
Local pet shop owner Robert Ryan made a special recording of Timbuk 3’s ‘The Future’s So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades’ for the big day.
The businessman was also busy on Friday distributing limited edition T-shirts to the fans.
