Dumbarton FC could clinch the title this weekend

DUMBARTON could clinch the third division title on Saturday – but, as ever, they have some hard work to do first.

Elgin City are visitors to the Rock and will not be in any mood to roll over and give Sons the win that could be enough.

A victory for Sons and failure to win by both Cowdenbeath at home to Forfar, and East Stirling away to Albion Rovers, would seal the trophy.

But nothing can be taken for granted against an Elgin side who have been improving recently, despite occupying bottom spot in the table.

Sons have taken seven points out of nine against the Morayshire men this season, beating them 2-0 both home and away last month.

The other game resulted in a 1-1 draw at Borough Briggs in August. Elgin also drew at Cowdenbeath recently, so they are capable of some surprising results.

On Saturday they were beaten 2-0 at home by East Stirling. They are guaranteed to finish in last place, but must be taken seriously.

Sons' cause would be greatly assisted by a four-figure crowd, which they nearly got for Saturday's 4-0 victory over Forfar.

Kick-off is at the usual 3pm, with the supporters' bar open from 12.30pm for season ticket holders and 1.15pm for non-holders.
