Derek Carcary makes miracle return for Dumbarton FC

DEREK Carcary made a miracle recovery to help Dumbarton to Saturday’s 4-0 win over Forfar and boost their title hopes.

It was feared that the forward could miss the rest of the season after damaging ligaments in the recent 2-0 victory over Berwick Rangers.

But, after working with ex-Sons boss Jim Fallon at the Hampden sports injury clinic, he returned to fire Sons’ third goal against the Loons.

And although he was substituted after 57 minutes, Derek is confident he’s over what looked a nasty injury.

He said: “I wasn’t expecting to play in midweek, but on Thursday and Friday I sensed that I had a chance of making it.

“I had a fitness test before the game and that persuaded the manager that I was able to start the game.

“My substitution wasn’t anything serious. I just felt a bit tired after being out injured for nearly two weeks and it was felt I should come off.

“There was no swelling or reaction and as long as I rest over the next couple of days I should be available again next week.”

Derek now hopes that Sons can beat Elgin on Saturday and other results will go their way to help them clinch the third division title.

And he hopes for a bumper crowd at the Rock for what could be a celebration if the scores are right.

He added: “It was a great result on Saturday and a great team performance. It was one which has been coming for the last few weeks.

“I had a couple of other chances and Ben Gordon had a header cleared off the line. It was more difficult to kick on in the second half with such a cushion.

“On Saturday we will just have to put our own performance first and worry about results elsewhere afterwards.

“I don’t see why Forfar can’t do us a favour on Saturday. They created a few chances and after Cowdenbeath’s results recently, it is possible.

“You also never know what can happen with East Stirling visiting Albion Rovers. Hopefully Rovers can do something for us.

“The fans were brilliant on Saturday, even before the game when they did the Walk to the Rock. I hope we’ve done enough to convince them to come back this Saturday.”
