DEREK Carcary was part of a shock victory the last time he played at Ross County – now he’s hoping for the same again on Saturday.
The Dumbarton winger, who set up Ross Clark’s goal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Albion, was a late substitute when Raith Rovers won 3-2 against Ross County, who were running away with the second division title, at Victoria Park in March.
Sons head north for Saturday’s Homecoming Scottish Cup third round tie and Derek is aiming for another shock victory.
He said: “It will be a good chance to go up there and play a team from two divisions above us. Hopefully things will work out the same as last time I played there.
“If we play as we can then we are capable of a shock result, as we showed in the first half against Airdrie United earlier this season. However, we will need the right attitude.
“The next league game against Cowdenbeath is a must-win fixture after recent results but we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. We won’t be thinking about it until we’ve played County.”
Derek admitted Sons were disappointed at the result against the Rovers, which extended the winless run to three games.
They had hoped for better having beaten the Coatbridge team earlier in the season, but Derek is confident they will bounce back.
He added: “We were disappointed in the end, but we didn’t play well so I suppose a draw was a fair result. I thought I did OK, and set up the goal, but I felt I could have contributed a bit more.
“We weren’t really surprised despite our victory over them last time as we knew they were a good side. On their day they can beat anybody and while we were sloppy, they started well.
“It’s disappointing to go from one victory off top spot to our current position but we just have to stick together and battle through it.
“We’ve not been playing well but every team goes through a bad stage and once we bounce back we will move back up the table.”
