SKIPPER Gordon Lennon paid tribute to the Dumbarton fans who made the trip to Fraserburgh.
Two busloads of supporters made the journey, thanks to the work of the Sons Supporters Trust and bus sponsors HG Engineering.
They were rewarded with a 1-0 victory in the Homecoming Scottish Cup second round tie, and Gordon was in awe of their efforts.
He said: “Without a shadow of a doubt, they were brilliant. You can’t put a price on a support like we had on Saturday.
“Going 200 miles away, you think you might get negative vibes from the crowd as it’ll be mostly home fans.
“But when you have supporters who make the effort like ours did, you feel you really owe them a performance. Saturday’s game was as much for them as it was for us.
“It was a professional performance from us. The conditions and surroundings meant the odds were stacked against us, but we went about our business productively and effectively.
“The first 15 to 20 minutes is all about settling in and gauging what to expect from the opposition. Once we’d done that, we didn’t have too much to contend with.”
Gordon, 25, also warned against looking too far ahead to next Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash away to Stenhousemuir.
Sons welcome struggling Berwick Rangers to the Strathclyde Homes Stadium on Saturday, with the skipper looking to guard against complacency.
He added: “I think it is safe to say that the gaffer will make sure we focus on Saturday’s game before thinking about facing Stenny. We don’t want to look too far ahead.
“The job still needs to be done against Berwick although they have struggled recently. It just takes one game for struggling teams to improve.
“That could be Saturday’s game, so we need to keep working hard for each other and take the chances when we get them.”
