IT was an excellent performance at Montrose. The attitude, application and workrate were first-class in difficult conditions, and we went about our business very well.
Overall, we maybe didn't play as well as we wanted, but the negative side of our game was excellent. We contained Montrose very well and we got a foothold in the match.
We controlled the game in the second half, however the slackness at the end cost us our first clean sheet of the season.
To concede through our own fault took some of the gloss off the victory and what I thought was a very good performance.
We had a setback only two minutes before kick-off when Derek Carcary slipped in the final stages of his warm-up and tweaked his hamstring.
To lose him and Stevie Murray through injury was a blow, but we have such a squad of players who can do a job. It also shows the hard work we are putting in at training is starting to pay dividends.
Michael Moore was also missing due to a calf strain picked up in training on Thursday. He has worked so hard to get back into action and it's really frustrating for him.
Everybody wants a good cup run and Fraserburgh will give us a very difficult tie next week.
The Third Division is our priority this season, but the cup competitions give an opportunity to raise the profile of the club.
We will prepare for the game as professionally as we can, and will travel north on Friday afternoon to stay overnight.
That way we will be well rested and there will be no excuses.
