GARY Wilson was a hat-trick hero on his last visit to north-east Scotland – now he’s hoping for a repeat performance when Dumbarton travel to Fraserburgh on Saturday.
The defender scored three penalties for Pollok against Ellon United in a 7-0 win in last season’s Scottish Junior Cup.
But the 29-year-old warns that Sons won’t have an easy game when they face the Highland League men in the Scottish Cup second round.
He said: “It’s a long journey to that part of the country, but hopefully Saturday will work out as well for Dumbarton as my last game in Aberdeenshire did for Pollok.
“People might look for a shock result in the cup, but it’s up to us to avoid that happening to us.
“It’s not going to be different from any other game.
“It will be a stuffy game and we’ll need to dig in but I’m confident we can win if we approach it in the right manner.”
Gary has become a fixture at left back for Sons and put in a solid performance in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Montrose.
And he’s now setting his sights on league leaders Stenhousemuir, who only lead Sons by two points after their weekend 4-2 defeat at Elgin.
He added: “It was a great victory for us. To go there and get all three points is exactly what we would have hoped for so we’re delighted.
“Losing a goal in the final minute was disappointing as I don’t think they had looked like scoring, but overall it worked out well for us. Now it is starting to click for the whole team.”
