Dumbarton FC winger: 'Nothing to scare us'

NO ONE scares us – that’s the message Derek Carcary sent Dumbarton’s Division Three rivals on the back of his side’s 4-1 drubbing of Annan at the weekend.

The winger produced an outstanding individual performance on Saturday, setting up Paul Keegan’s goal, winning the penalty converted by Ross Clark and forcing the second own goal.

And on the back of that shift, the 22-year-old revealed it was one of the best matches he has ever contested.

He said: “We’ve only had one defeat so far, although we had a few too many draws at the start of the season.

“But having seen everyone play there is now no one in the league that scares us. We feel we can compete with all of the teams.

“It was a good game, possibly up there with the best I’ve played in. I’m starting to get a run in the team and the confidence is starting to grow in all of us.

“Once I had set up a couple of goals I started to wonder how many it would be, but the main thing was to get the win.”

Thanks to Scotland’s World Cup qualifier with Norway this Saturday, Sons have no game until the following week.

But Derek revealed his side are not letting up in their race for the title and are already gearing up for their next game on Montrose’s artificial pitch in two weeks time.

He said: “It was harder playing into the wind in the second half, but a 4-1 victory was definitely a fair result.

“We feel we are on course and we will hopefully be able to pick up a few more points in the second quarter of the season.

“After a good performance you just want the games to keep coming, same as if you are on a winning run.

“The Montrose game will be a hard one for us, but we feel that on our day we can beat anyone.

“It’s a different surface and it’ll be the first time I’ve played on their surface, though I’ve played on the plastic pitch at Alloa.”
