Dumbarton FC favourite needs knee op

FORMER Dumbarton fans’ favourite Chris Boyle is home from Australia – but won’t be playing football again anytime soon.

The midfielder is likely to need an operation on a knee injury. He didn’t think it was serious, but he now he knows different.

He said: “I think it was with the first tackle I’ve ever made! I knew I had hurt my knee, but I felt I was able to play on.

“When somebody seriously injures their knee you usually see them leave the field on a stretcher and I didn’t need that.

“But it was only when I saw the physio afterwards I realised how badly I was actually hurt.

“I had also asked to be released from my contract even though it ran until December. If I was under contract I’d have been covered by the club’s insurance policy.”

Chris’s team, Sydney United, lost in the league semi-finals to eventual winners Manly United.

The 25-year-old was an interested spectator at Raise the Rock Day. He said: “It was a good game to come back and see. They must be in with a good chance this season and be looking for at least a playoff place.”
