Lennon keeps his record going and hopes it will last
GORDON Lennon hopes to score in every game for Dumbarton – and believes they’ll win the league if he does.
The skipper lashed home Sons’ equaliser at Berwick on Saturday before Fergus Tiernan got the winner soon after.
Gordon’s goal maintained his three-year senior career record of his team always winning whenever he scores.
He said: “It’s a huge three points for us. Berwick are one of the teams who will be pushing for promotion so to go there and get three points was a massive boost.
“My record would be a good one to keep for as long as possible. It would obviously be great to score in every game because we would win the league if I did!
“Going in at half time one down produced a mix of emotions for us. There was disappointment at how we lost the goal but also encouragement because we had dominated the game.
“Equalising when we did knocked Berwick and we took advantage by getting the second goal soon after.”
Gordon, 25, is so anxious to be a part of Sons’ title challenge this season he’d even play IN GOAL to get a game.
Despite being team captain, he hasn’t been a first pick at his usual central defensive position this season due to the performances of Michael O’Byrne and Ben Gordon.
Sons are at home to Stenhousemuir on Saturday and Gordon is focusing on that game instead of Tuesday’s Co-operative Cup second round tie at St Mirren.
He added: “From now until the end of the season as long as my name is on the teamsheet I’ll be happy to play – even if it’s in goal.
“It’s pretty hard for the manager to make any changes. Michael and Ben are playing at centre half right now and doing very well, so it’s up to me to push them.
“Saturday’s game is definitely a big one for us. Stenny are unbeaten in the league like us, and either team could go top if other results go their way.
“That’s another huge incentive for us. We’ll also hopefully have some players back from injury for that one.
“Tuesday will be the first time I’ve ever played against a Premier League side. If I’m selected it would be great to play but all our focus is on playing Stenny right now.”
