Ex-Buddies have point to prove for Dumbarton FC

TWO Sons players hope to prove their old team wrong on Tuesday – by causing the first League Cup upset of this campaign.

Defender Ben Gordon and Alan Gourlay both played in the youth team at Love Street before being released to join amateur sides.

Now having linked up again at Dumbarton, the pair are optimistic they can prove Buddies wrong – by knocking them out of the League Cup.

Ben, 22, said: “I would like to think we can cause an upset but we will wait and see what happens.

“It should be a good game and hopefully we will do well.

“Before I went to university I was at St Mirren for a couple of years. I played a few reserve games but never got into the first team.

“I didn’t think I’d get the chance to play at Love Street again so soon after leaving but I’m looking forward to it.”

Meanwhile, Alan, also 22, knows he faces stiff competition to be involved in the tie, which is Sons’ second visit to Love Street in seven months.

He said: “I hope I can be involved. We’ve been strong recently and have players to come back from injury, so I’ll need to keep working hard.”
