FERGUS Tiernan may have scored his first goal of the season on Saturday, but he doesn’t fancy his chances of retaining his top scorer title.
The midfielder hit the winner against Berwick as Dumbarton came from behind for their first victory of the season on Saturday.
He jointly topped Sons’ scoring charts with Robert Campbell and Brian McPhee last season as all three netted six goals.
He said: “It’s always nice to score and add something to the team, but realistically I don’t think I’ll be top scorer again.
“We have strikers who will hopefully get 10-15 goals each over the season.
“Obviously I’d like to contribute my share, but I think they’ll be challenging for the award.”
As one of the players to get their chance in the team due to Sons high injury rate, Fergus hopes he has impressed enough to become a manager’s pick.
He added: “Every team gets injuries, so we can’t use that as an excuse, but it shows we have a good group of players.
“All the games will be hard for us, especially when we are playing a team for the first time.
“The league is still taking shape and it will be interesting to see in a few weeks.”
