Logan buries Annan to see 10-man Dumbarton FC through

SONS earned their second round draw with St Mirren after beating league newcomers Annan Athletic, writes Andy Galloway.

Raymond Logan headed Sons level with five minutes left of extra time, resulting in a penalty shootout which they won 5-4.

Mike Jack put Annan in front from the spot in an incident which saw Son’s Andy Geggan sent off.

But this game should not have needed extra time or penalties as Sons had enough chances to win over 90 minutes.

Derek Carcary had a 30-yard effort saved in the first half before Logan’s header was cleared off the line after the restart.

However, neither side found the net until the 13th minute of extra time when Geggan fouled Steven Sloan in the area and Jack converted the penalty.

Having been booked for the challenge, Geggan kept protesting, and was shown a second yellow card.

But the home side’s heads did not go down and Logan headed in from 12 yards after a mix-up in the Annan defence.

Both sides performed well in the shootout, with Logan scoring for Sons along with Ross Clark, Fergus Tiernan and Michael O’Byrne.

Annan also scored all of their first four kicks, but Dave McEwan saved Alan Inglis’ attempt which left Stevie Murray to convert the decisive penalty to put Sons into the second round.
