Dumbarton bowlers look for national places
FIVE of Dumbarton’s top young bowlers are hoping to win a place in the national under-25 squad at trials this weekend.
Emma McIntyre, Anna Connolly and Michelle Keenan are taking part in the ladies’ trial at Abbeyview Indoor Bowling Club in Dunfermline and at Paisley Indoor Bowling Club, Graeme Sloan and Kevin Anderson will fly the flag for Dumbarton and District IBC.
Meanwhile, two of the club’s teams were in inter-club league action at the weekend, with mixed results.
The senior gents were at home to Paisley and were beaten 85-53.
Individual rink scores (Dumbarton skips first): John Gillies 9, N Rafferty 24; Charlie Cassidy 18, T Pattison 16; Stewart Shields 12, D Martin 23; George Lunan 14, P Toner.
The gents managed an 80-71 victory at home to Ardrossan IBC. Two of the individual rinks were won, while a third ended in a draw.
Rink scores (Dumbarton skips first): Graeme Sloan 16, M Williamson 26; Brian Neeson 22, D O’Rourke 15; Kevin Anderson 26, R McConnachie 14; Kenny Paton 16, S Wilson 16.
The gents team are away to Galleon IBC in Kilmarnock this Saturday.
The ladies return to action this week at home to Inverclyde IBC.
DUMBARTONSHIRE Women’s Bowling Association held their AGM last week.
The following delegates were voted into office: President – Mary Cochrane (Bearsden BC); Vice president – Elizabeth MacLeod (Helensburgh BC); Treasurer – Elizabeth Black (Vale of Leven BC); Secretary – Myra Hastie (Dumbarton BC); West 1 Secretary – Vacant; West 2 Secretary – Margaret Smith (Vale of Leven BC); East 3 Secretary – Janet Mumford; East 4 Secretary – Corine Jardine (Auchenloch BC). It is hoped a player from the Cardross or Helensburgh area will fill the West 1 Secretary post.
The council recommended that the capitation fees be raised by 25p to £1.25 and it was decided club colours can be worn as long as all players in the team are wearing the same. If not, greys and whites should be worn.
DUMBARTONSHIRE Bowling Association’s AGM took place last week.
The following office bearers and directors were elected: President – Harry McGuingel (Colgrain BC); Vice president – Tom Sinclair (Kirkintilloch BC); Honorary Secretary/Treasurer – James Dalziel (Kirkintilloch BC); IPP – George McCartney (Yoker BC).
Two new directors were elected to the board – James Dickson of Cardross BC and Stewart Shields of Dumbarton BC.
A NUMBER of clubs hosted their end-of-season award dinners last week.
